What is recorded here

One large flagstone hid a long dark chamber on Mr Lyne's land in Coolies, County Kerry. In the 1930s, Capt. D. B. O'Connell helped move the stone and found a room about twelve feet long, five feet wide and four to five feet high, with a low doorway at one end leading into a ramped passage. The chamber was filled with debris, and no visible remains are recorded there now.

In a possible rath (KE075-007----). There are no visible remains of this Man-made underground passage. In the 1930s, Capt. D. B. O'Connell recorded that a passage was found on Mr Lyne's land and subsequent investigation revealed that a large flagstone had been uncovered and moved (SMR file). Moving the flagstone revealed a large oblong E-W chamber measuring 'about 12 foot [3.66m] long, 5 foot [1.5m] wide, 4-5 foot [1.22-1.52m] high' and filled with debris and a 'low doorway' (2.6ft [0.76m] x 2.6ft [0.76m]) at the E end of the N wall of the chamber, leading to a ramped N-S passage (L 10ft [3m]) which 'appears to lead to the original entrance' (SMR file).
