Cool East holds a circular hut and a blocked underground passage on the flank of Cool Hill. Westropp called the site a fort in 1912, though only the hollow jaw of rock and the shadow beneath the terrace remain. The passage resists entry, yet its narrow throat still points northeast, as if waiting for a hand small enough or brave enough to test the dark.

About 100m W of KE078-019----. A circular hut foundation KE078-026---- built on a level terrace which is .5m high and is revetted with large slabs on its S side. Upright slabs define the hut circle. D: 6.85m x 6.3m. A drystone-built Man-made underground passage opens just off the S side of the hut at the base of the terrace. The opening, too small to allow access, is .5m wide x .35m high and leads into a passage which extends to NE. The coursed side-walls corbel inwards towards the roofing lintels. This is perhaps the site of the 'fort' referred to by Westropp, situated on the 'flank of Cool Hill' (1912, 298). The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
