What is recorded here

Under Collon, a narrow drystone chamber runs beneath the road, measuring two metres long, one metre wide and one and a half metres high. It is closed now, but the passage still belongs to the town, hidden under wheels and rain. People may have walked there in darkness, carrying messages, hiding goods or simply avoiding the street above. The stones remember footsteps even when the entrance has vanished.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
