Man-made underground passage in Cloonareague

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

No visible chamber exists today, but the collapsed ground inside the northern half of the ringfort at Cloonareague suggests a hidden passage beneath the soil. That much is all the evidence offers: a man-made gap, lost or buried, waiting under what looks like ordinary wrecked earth.
In N half ringfort (CO094-105---). Collapsed area may indicate presence of Man-made underground passage. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
