Carrownafreevy hides a man-made underground passage beneath the south bank of the Killian River. Local tradition claims a cave on a nearby rise sends a tunnel two and a half kilometres west-southwest to a fort in Tirur. No surface trace remains, but the missing distance and hidden route suggest people once built or used a passage that defied the landscape.
