Barnacahoge is a rath in County Mayo where local tradition still points to a buried passage, though no entrance or tunnel remains visible. The field may have swallowed the hole, closed the shaft or taken the stairs long after the people who used them stopped coming and going. What is left is a shape in the land and a warning that memory can preserve what sight has lost.
