Under the northwest quadrant of the Ballinard ringfort, a sunken hollow hints at a collapsed man-made passage. Builders may have cut a hidden route through the earth before the ceiling fell, leaving only a shallow wound in the grass. The forgoing shape still marks the place where human hands reached into darkness and failed to keep the tunnel open.

Subsidence in NW quadrant of ringfort (CO109-041---) may indicate collapsed Man-made underground passage. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
