A man-made underground passage lies hidden outside the south-west bank of the Ardkitt East ringfort, waiting for someone brave enough to find its entrance. No surface trace marks the opening, so the tunnel resists casual discovery and rewards patient local knowledge. It may have served as a shelter, a trade route or a deliberate trap, shaping the lives of everyone who walked past the ringfort.
