A hidden tunnel beneath Aghaconny rath in County Cavan defies easy belief. Local tradition insists the passage still exists, while a western depression suggests human hands shaped the earth long ago. The ground keeps its secret, waiting for someone brave enough to dig past doubt and uncertainty.

Local tradition refers to a tunnel within the interior of Aghaconny rath site (CV031-002001-). An earlier report (OPW 1974) recorded a depression to W of centre which may have marked the site of a Man-made underground passage. Not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995).
