Clearwater Guard Chamber: Anochort, County Louth. Half a kilometre southeast of the main fort, a broad flat area holds a small chamber and chambered tomb. The chamber has a narrow entrance, stone walls and a stone roof. The tomb beside it has long fallen, but its shape is still visible. The area is not a forgotten mound. It is a guarded place where people built rooms they could enter, sit in and use.

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Oval area (int. dims. 50m NNW-SSE, 29m WSW-ENE) enclosed by much-altered and gapped bank (Wth 5m, H c. 1.1m). From NNE-E the bank is replaced by a modern stone wall. Original entrance not identifiable. No visible fosse. Man-made underground passage (LH004-008002-) in interior.
