Under the north-west quadrant of a Cork ringfort, a narrow stone chamber waits in darkness. Built six feet long and four feet wide with rounded corners and lintel roofing, it remains small enough for one person to occupy entirely. The passage may have served as a hidden refuge or a forgotten storage space, but its true purpose has faded into the soil.

In NW quadrant of ringfort (8267). Investigated by Hartnett (1939, 56), who described a single rectangular stone-built chamber '6 feet by 4 feet' (long axis NW-SE) with rounded corners roofed with stone lintels; walls tend to narrow towards top.
