What is recorded here

No visible trace remains on the surface, yet a man could once crawl through a hidden passage beneath a Cork ringfort. Two openings faced each other across sixty yards, creating a secret tunnel that swallowed human bodies and reappeared elsewhere. The earth kept the shape of human ambition long after the builders vanished.

Shown on 1936 OS 6-inch map in W side of ringfort (CO039-05301-). Broker (1937, 45) recorded an 'opening inside fort on southern side and another of same size about 60 yards to North; man could crawl through it. Persons have gone in a few yards'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000).
