Malin Well Eastern Coastal Promontory Fort

Marked Dungolgan on the OS 6-inch maps it comprises a precipitous promontory approached by a very narrow neck of land in places less than 1m wide. There are unconvincing indications of a possible bank and fosse on this isthmus itself. At its N or sea end is a 13.5m stretch of earthen bank, possibly the remains of the triangular earthwork recorded here (Davies and Swan 1939, 207). Just S of the land side of the approaching neck is a 1.75m square sunken feature. The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal.
