This blue commemorative plaque records: In the late 1930s and 1940s Sir Malcolm Campbell 1885-1948 world water speed record holder tested and developed Bluebird on this lake known locally as Campbell's lake Recorded plaque organisation: Crawley Arts Council.
Sir Malcolm Campbell was a British speed record breaker who set several land and water speed records; he famously tested his Bluebird boats on the lake here, earning it the local name of Campbell's Lake.
