Máirtín Ó Cadhain, born in Spiddal in 1906, rewrote Irish prose with modernist fire after years of teaching, recruiting, and imprisonment. His novel Cré na Cille still echoes because it refused to treat Irish as a museum language, forcing it to carry republicanism, Marxism, and ordinary human contradiction. He died in Dublin in 1970, but the sharper edge of his work remains visible wherever Irish writes itself without apology.
