The Rossylongan estate began as land granted to John Murray by James I. Coillte records that Padraig Mac Manus enlarged the house, laid out a walled garden and orchard, and planted trees with local workers in the early twentieth century. The estate passed to Coillte in the 1980s with the wish that the public could enjoy it.
