M.P.

In a grassy verge on the E side of a local road. Named 'M.P.' on the 1922 edition of the OS 6-inch map, this milestone (H 0.84m; Wth 0.29m at front, 0.45m at rear; D 0.35m) consists of a well-dressed trapezoidal-shaped limestone pillar with a slight chamfer to the front angles. The upper part of the stone, all around the top, is badly spalled. The inscription on the front face would have read ‘13 From Galway’ but, as a result of spalling, all that survives is ‘--/-rom/-alway’ (O’Sullivan 2021, No. 5).
