What is recorded here

West of the Galway rath, a hidden passage waited beneath the grass. People dug it deliberately, perhaps to hide goods, escape rain or keep secrets from neighbours. By 1982 the entrance had closed, forcing the caves to forget their own shape. They still belong to the land, patient under the feet of everyone who walks past.

Within the W sector of a rath (GA113-013----). Indicated on 1st (1838) and 3rd eds. (1922) of OS maps. When visited by the Survey in 1982 this Man-made underground passage was blocked up.
