The RMS Lusitania was a British ocean liner sunk by a German U-boat on May 7, 1915, during World War I, resulting in the deaths of 1,198 passengers and crew. The loss of the Lusitania significantly contributed to shifting public opinion against Germany and is considered a catalyst for the United States' eventual entry into the war.
