Lurraga Fort

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Marianne pressed her palms against the cool clay of Lurraga Fort and felt the boundary pull back like a breath drawn inward. The ring was not a dead shape but a living chamber, waiting for someone strong enough to enter without fear. She stepped through the gap, carried the children inside, and watched the fort accept them as if it had remembered their names all along.

Lurraga Fort is a ringfort, a type of early-medieval agricultural and defensive settlement, typically dating between the 5th and 10th centuries AD. Local folklore may associate such sites with fairy legends, as many ringforts in Ireland are believed to be dwellings of the "good people" or are linked to ancient Irish mythology.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
