What is recorded here

Longford Island is a crannog in County Mayo, Ireland. It is a man-made island, likely built from stacked stone, earth and timber to raise a home above wet land. People may have lived there when the surrounding area was too cold, flat or dangerous for ordinary buildings. The island still stands as a small marker of human cleverness, forcing life upward instead of surrendering to the landscape.
