LONG CAIRN in Lissan

LONG CAIRN

What is recorded here

Long Cairn in Lissan is a prehistoric scheduled monument where ancient hands stacked stone against the sky. It still stands in County Fermanagh, preserving the shape of forgotten rituals and the patience of people who believed death needed a visible marker. The stones do not explain themselves, but they refuse to disappear.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as LONG CAIRN. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Neolithic long cairn; dates to the earlier part of the Neolithic period (c. 3700–2500 BCE). It represents a significant form of early funerary and ceremonial architecture in the prehistoric landscape of Northern Ireland.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
