Loghill Castle stood on the east side of the inlet until Mr Hewson broke it into a garden wall, erasing its shape but keeping its stones inside a private boundary. The castle appears in 1302 war accounts and still appears in late sixteenth and early seventeenth century writings, so it survived being wasted once and was wasted again by a man who wanted a neat edge for his plants.

The castle of Loghill was 'wasted' in 1302 war, but castle of that name existed in late16th/early 17th century (Westropp 1906-7, 240). Mid-17th century Down Survey map shows castle on E side of Loghill inlet, approximately in position of Loghill House. According to Lewis (1837, ) castle was 'taken down by the late Mr Hewson, who built a garden wall with the material'; Hewson lived in Ouvane Cottage, later Loghill House. This house and its walled garden have recently been demolished. Only trace of any structure associated with house is short stretch of walling (L c. 5m; H 2m; Wth 0.5m) along shoreline; this unlikely to be associated with castle.
