Loghill

Settlement cluster

What is recorded here

The Down Survey map (1655-1656 AD) of Connello barony shows a small settlement on either side of the river roughly in the vicinity of the village of Loghill (Hib. Reg.). However, O’Connor’s map of ‘villages of County Limerick 1654-6' does not show any settlement at this location (O'Connor 1987, 22, Fig. 2.1). The 1840 OS map shows the village only on the western side of the river but the oldest buildings now in this area are 19th century in appearance. Therefore, the exact nature and location of the 17th century settlement here is unclear. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of Upload: 2 August 2012
