Loch Awe, Innis Chonnel Castle

Innis Chonnel Castle, located on an island in Loch Awe, was likely built by the MacDougall clan in the 13th century. It is remembered as a strategic stronghold in the struggle for control of the western Scottish Highlands and was noted in historical accounts for its role in the Wars of Scottish Independence.
