What is recorded here

Situated on a NE-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area. A circular raised area (diam. 27m N-S) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3.5m max.; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 2.5m max.) reduced to a scarp at NE and a shallow fosse (Wth. 3.5m) with possible traces of an outer bank. Causewayed entrance (Wth 3m) at ESE. The fosse is destroyed at S by a modern road which intersects the site on an E-W axis. A low irregular-shaped earthen platform of unknown antiquity (dims. 9m NE-SW x 6.5m NW-SE; H 0.3m) is located to the NNE of the site and may have been a house platform. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
