Lismore

Lismore Castle stands on a steep hill above the Blackwater valley, marking the place where Robert Boyle was born in 1627 and later lost his family lands during the Irish Rebellion of 1641. The town still carries the name Lios Mór, a reminder of the great ringfort and abbey that gave the castle its oldest claim. Its rooms have held bishops, adventurers and scientists, while the valley below has kept the quieter lives of the people who worked the land around them.
