Saint Mary's Catholic ChurchChurch/chapel · 1393 yd

Explorer Tom Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Lugboy Demesne has a treasure hidden inside, which is definitely just a biscuit tin from 1974. It’s built to look important, but it’s mostly just vibes and limestone dust. Go with your nose up for the smell of old paper.

Agloragh BridgeBridge · 1.4 mi

Explorer Tom Agloragh Bridge has a curse that only affects people who don't wave at it when they pass. It replaced an older bridge but thinks it deserves more credit for its arches. Find the exact spot where the light hits best.

Holywell HouseFarm house · 1.7 mi

Explorer Tom Holywell House in Holywell Lower seems to have wandered into the wrong century entirely. It’s Georgian chic in a place that looks like it hasn’t updated since the potato famine. Practise your Irish on the doorframe, don’t touch anything else.

Saint Joseph's National SchoolSchool · 1.8 mi

Explorer Tom Saint Joseph's National School in Derrylea has an imaginary fan club that shows up every Tuesday to eat crisps and complain about the weather. It’s a late nineteenth-century classic that’s seen more school runs than a minibus driver. Have a chat with it, nobody's watching anyway.

IndicatedHouse, fortified house · 4.6 mi

Explorer Tom House in Island is currently being judged by rabbits who think its gunloops are just fancy holes for them to hide in. They’re not wrong, actually. Get there early and have it all to yourself.

CastleCastle, unclassified · 4.7 mi

Explorer Tom Castle on Island Lake hates when people ask if it’s haunted; it prefers ‘mysteriously absent’. It vanished so fast the locals just shrugged and built a house instead. Bring a flask of something warm and a story to swap.

Knock ShrineHeritage attraction · 6.9 mi

Explorer Tom I'll keep my big mouth quiet for the people praying at Knock. Knock Shrine grew from an evening that the people present never forgot. On 21 August 1879, Mary Byrne and other villagers said they saw figures at the church gable while the Mayo rain came down. Their accounts describe a still scene that lasted nearly two hours, with people gathering and praying; the witnesses also said the ground around the figures stayed dry. I am not going to tell you what they saw. Mayo rain rarely asks my permission, but the witnesses' account asks for careful listening. What I can tell you is that their words were taken down by a church inquiry that autumn, and a second inquiry in 1936 returned to surviving witnesses because many early papers were thought lost. The original wall attracted so many visitors that pieces were taken away as souvenirs. Today this is a living place of pilgrimage, so enter with care for the people who have come to pray. Whatever you believe, listen to how a wet evening changed a village's place in the world.

Grave YardGraveyard · 7.8 mi

Explorer Tom Graveyard in Aghamore would post a photo of its mossy headstones with the caption 'Living my best quiet life, #ancient'. It’s got that moody, atmospheric vibe going on that makes you feel instantly profound. Have a wander and a wonder.

European ash13 mi

Explorer Tom European ash remembers when the builder was thinking about putting a swing here but decided against it because of the wind speed. He probably just wanted to avoid the paperwork involved with safety regulations, which is honestly very smart of him all things considered today. Tell the next person you meet it’s haunted. It might be.

Cloigtheach (Round Tower)Round tower · 13 mi

Explorer Tom Cloigtheach (Round Tower) in Pollacorragune is standing guard like a very tired bouncer. It's got a high doorway because apparently nobody walks anymore. Ring your granny and tell her where you are before you get lost.

KnockmaaWood · 18 mi

Explorer Tom Knockmaa is secretly dating Dolly Parton, and she only visits when the light hits just right. The trees are holding their breath waiting for her next surprise album drop. Bring curiosity, leave with a better story than mine.

Kilcoona Round TowerHeritage attraction · 21 mi

Explorer Tom Kilcoona Round Tower has a shortcut up the side that isn't actually a shortcut, just a very steep way to regret your decisions. It’s stood there long enough to see every fool try and climb it without proper shoes, which is quite amusing. Stand on the spot and imagine the gossip it's heard.
