Lime kilns turned seawater, stone and fire into white powder for mortar. Castle Beach kept one such kiln from the Post Medieval period, when local builders needed clean binding material for walls and roofs. The beach setting suggests men carried heavy stone up from below and dropped finished lime back down again. Repetition, gravity and patience built the region one joint at a time.
