Her hands shaped Irish myth into visible form before she died at eighty-eight in the Royal City of Dublin Hospital on 23 March 1959. Lilla Vanston turned patriotic longing into sculpture, portraits and decorative plaques, then carried that impulse into Paris and later life. The hospital room may have felt small after decades of studios, exhibitions and wanderings, but it was the last address written beside her name.
