Explorer Tom The Wales Coast Path is Tom's idea of a quick seaside stroll stretched to an outrageous 870 miles. It follows the country's shore from the Chester side of the border to Chepstow, passing cliffs, beaches, towns, estuaries and stretches where the sea seems to be your only companion. The public map marks this place in Ceredigion, where the route runs along the Cardigan Bay coast; you can begin with one honest section instead of claiming the entire coastline before tea. The path opened in 2012 and links existing coastal routes into a journey around Wales. The official halfway point is at New Quay in Ceredigion, a useful thought when you are standing beside the water and wondering how anyone keeps walking for hundreds more miles. The route also joins other long-distance trails, making it possible for the truly determined to circle the country. Most people sensibly choose a shorter stretch. Tom has announced he will walk it all at once; the tide has not yet commented. This is not one uniform track. A town promenade can give way to rough cliff paths, and a sheltered bay to an exposed headland. Look up the exact Ceredigion section before setting out, including distance, terrain and any current diversion. Check tides if the walk touches a beach and leave enough time to return. There are places where public transport can help make a one-way outing, but services vary. The path itself is free and open through the year. Pick a section that matches the day's weather and your legs, then allow pauses. A coast that changes this much should never be reduced to a distance badge. Tom can count the miles while you watch the sea.
