Leaden shadows still hang beneath the County Down hills where men pulled silver-grey ore through narrow shafts during the C19TH. The engine house stands as a brutal monument to human muscle and machine force, scheduling itself against forgetting. Men bled into the dark earth, trading youth for gleaming lead while the engine coughed and shook the ground.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as LEAD MINE; ENGINE HOUSE; SHAFTS etc (IHR SITE - c.f. IHR 2631 for details). Recorded period: C19TH. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
