What is recorded here
Fyans Castle rose in 1571, casting a long shadow across the south city and perhaps hiding a public latrine on its east side. That much is clear. The exact spot has vanished, leaving behind a gap where human relief and castle grandeur once collided. It is easy to imagine people queueing in the mud, annoyed by the stench but grateful for the walls.
Clarke mentions the former existence of a public latrine on the E side of Fyans Castle which was built in 1571 (2002, 28). Not precisely located.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
