Lanark, Castlebank

Lanark Castle, located on Castlebank, was originally built by the de Balliol family in the 13th century and later held by the Douglas family, becoming a significant stronghold in the Wars of Scottish Independence. Though the 19th-century structure recorded as a country house is now of more recent origin, the site remains historically important due to its medieval heritage and strategic role in Scottish history.
