What is recorded here

Marked on the 1839 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map and described in gothic lettering as Lady’s Well on both. It is located on a NE-facing slope, in a recess on the N side of an E-W lane. This is a closed well with a pump-house nearby. There is no record that it was ever venerated and there is no evidence of veneration. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 25 January, 2013

Linked to a local tradition of healing and devotion, Lady’s Well is associated with a female saint or local heroine, common in Irish well cults, where water was sought for physical or spiritual ailments. Such wells often had rituals involving the recitation of prayers or the making of offerings.
