Ladys Well (covered)

The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Well is neatly kept with concrete surround. 'Patron' held here up to c. 1800, on 8th September (OSL 1839, 106).

Ladys Well is traditionally associated with a local saintly figure or "lady," common in early Irish Christian tradition, and may have been a site of pilgrimage or healing rituals. Holy wells dedicated to such figures often served as places for prayer, offerings, and the seeking of cures, particularly for women's ailments or fertility.
