Ladys Well

According to the OS Letters (1839), ‘There is a holy well called Lady’s Well in the Townland of Ballyda, much venerated still and frequented on the 15th of August by great numbers of devotees’ (O’Flanagan 1930, vol. 1, 274 (92)). Ladys Well in Ballyda is associated with Marian devotion, as suggested by its name and the traditional pilgrimage on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.
