Detached L-plan three-bay former ranger's lodge, built c.1890, single-storey to eastern section and single-storey with dormer attic to western section, with projecting gabled porch to junction, canted bay window to west elevation, and with extensions to rear. Now in use as house. Pitched slate roofs. Brick and pebble-dashed chimneystack with clay chimneypots behind ridge, and modern brick chimneystack added to rear. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Decorative timber bargeboards. Pebble-dashed walls with smooth-rendered quoins. Square-headed window openings with painted stone sills, two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows to front of single-storey and first floor of higher part, and casement elsewhere, with transom-and-mullion frames to ground floor of higher part, with stucco label-mouldings to front elevation of higher part. Square-headed door opening to porch with timber panelled and glazed door and granite step. Sandstone flagstone to entrance with cast-iron boot-scraper. Round-plan grounds enclosed by wrought-iron railings with pedestrian entrance gate opening to path to south and vehicular gate to north. Late Neolithic burial cist located to east of site.
A picturesque lodge in a cottage orné style. On an asymmetrical plan it has an attractive character and retains its original features, including the early glazing of the timber sash and casement windows. It sits prominently at the top of a hill beside a small Linkardstown-type burial cist of late Neolithic date. The well-maintained site is enclosed by wrought-iron railings and an inner hedge. The house is one of many historic structures within Phoenix Park.
