Knockaunacoll

Situated on top of a steep-sided hillock in a mountainous region with extensive views. A flat-topped circular mound (diam. 11.5m N-S; 16.5m E-W; H 2m) with possible traces of an enclosing fosse visible at E and W only. The base of the mound is intersected by an E-W field fence at S. Portal dolmen; likely dates to the Neolithic period (c. 4000–2500 BCE). Its location on a prominent hilltop suggests it may have had ritual or ceremonial significance in the landscape.
