Knappagh Bridge

Triple-arch stone road bridge with slight hump, built c.1750, spanning River Knappagh. Rubble stone parapets with Scotch copings. Random rubble stone spandrels with roughly dressed uneven voussoirs to round arches, west end arch smaller than other two. Rubble stone arch soffit resting on rubble abutments. Wing walls extend parallel to approach roads with battered buttresses at either end.

The bridge has a robust and rustic character with roughly dressed stone detailing, the Scotch copings and voussoirs are particularly expressive. It is a good example of eighteenth century bridge construction and is an interesting addition to the county's civil engineering heritage. It brings considerable definition to the historic character of its rural setting.
