The Bishop's Palace in Kirkwall, Palace Road, was built in the late 14th or early 15th century by the bishops of Orkney, who held significant religious and secular authority in the region. It is important as a historic seat of episcopal power and as an example of medieval ecclesiastical architecture in the Northern Isles.
