Explorer Tom If you thought a distillery was just a gloomy shed full of barrels, Arbikie has a field ready to argue with you. At this Lunan farm in Angus, crops for gin, vodka and whisky grow around the place where they are made, while Lunan Bay sits beyond the windows like a rather smug postcard. The family farm makes its field-to-bottle story unusually literal. Its own tour describes potatoes, peas, wheat and rye grown on site, and introduces the spirits made from them. The green hydrogen setup that fuels the stills is part of a separate sustainability visit. I suspect the peas have demanded their own dressing room, but the distillery has made no such announcement. You can book guided experiences, tastings or a cocktail session, and the Kirkwood Suite looks towards the bay. There is also a shop and a café and cocktail bar. A visitor can see much more than a bottle label here, though entry to the working parts comes with the booked tour rather than a wander through somebody else's machinery. Find Arbikie at Lunan, near Montrose; the operator lists on-site parking and level access. Check its current visit page before setting out, particularly if you want a tour or have a specific access need. Come for the seaside view if you must, but let the little potato make its case before you leave, and argue back if you dare.
