Kilquan Grave Yard sits on a plateau above two rivers, holding rough slabs for children the new church refused to bury. The old church vanished, but the field remained the last address for the unwanted dead.

On a natural plateau above the confluence of two rivers. According to Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 457) there was a church (KK011-008001-) within this graveyard. The OS Letters (1839) mention that there is, 'a small graveyard called Cill Chuain on the same townland. It is no longer sought as a place of sepulture since the new Catholic Church was built in its neighbourhood, where all the people prefer to take up their last abode' (O'Flanagan ed, 1930, 21-2 (7-8)). Carrigan (1905, vol. 3, 457) states that the, 'adjoining graveyard is now used only for the interment of unbaptized children. There are no inscribed monuments'. The graveyard appears to be at the S end of a small field (dims. c. 60m NW-SE) and is roughly rectangular in shape (dims. c. 22-32m NE-SW; c. 40m NW-SW), widening towards the N. A short length (6.5m) of bank (Wth 1m; H 0.3m) running westward from the N end of the E side (c. 40m from the S side) may be partially delineating the N edge of the graveyard, shown as a dashed line on the 2nd ed.
