Kilmore House

Detached three-bay single-storey gate lodge, extant 1932, on a T-shaped plan centred on single-bay single-storey lean-to breakfront. Hipped slate roof on a T-shaped plan extending into lean-to slate roof (breakfront), perforated crested terracotta ridge tiles extending into lichen-spotted ridge tiles, paired rendered central chimney stacks having stepped capping supporting terracotta tapered pots, and replacement plastic rainwater goods on timber eaves boards on slightly overhanging eaves. Roughcast walls with rendered block-and-start strips to corners. Square-headed window openings centred on square-headed window opening (breakfront) with sills, and concealed dressings framing timber casement windows. Set perpendicular to road at entrance to grounds of Kilmore House.

A gate lodge not only contributing positively to the group and setting values of the Kilmore House estate, but also clearly illustrating the continued development or "improvement" of the estate by Brigadier-General Claude John Perceval CB CMG DSO (1864-1932) with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact plan form centred on an expressed breakfront showing a multipartite opening; and the high pitched roof. Having been well maintained, the form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, thus upholding the character or integrity of a gate lodge making a pleasing visual statement in a sylvan street scene.
