What is recorded here
Killeen Burial Ground (Disused) is a children's burial ground in Gortakeeran, County Sligo, Ireland. Located two kilometres west-southwest of Rockfield, the rectangular platform sits in rough grazing at the base of a slope. O'Rorke wrote that unbaptised children were buried here, while small upright slabs on the sod-covered surface probably mark their graves.
Located c. 2 km WSW of the village of Rockfield. In rough grazing, at the base of a SE-facing slope and in the SW quadrant of an enclosure (SL025-027002-). A rectangular platform (10m WNW-ESE; 5.5m ENE-WSW) defined on three sides by the remains of a stone wall (Wth 1m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.5m) and on the fourth side by the W wall of the enclosure. The surface of the platform is covered with sod-covered stones including some small upright slabs, probably grave-markers. Several more similar stones and slabs were noted in the area to the S and SW of the platform. According to O'Rorke ([1889], vol. 2, 61), unbaptised children were buried here. There is a Man-made underground passage (SL025-153----) c. 100m to W.
