Kilbritain Church (in Ruins)

In NE quadrant of graveyard (CO123-022002-) ruins of parish church (L c. 16m, Wth 6m). Only sod-covered foundations survive except W gable and short return of S wall. Church in repair in 1615 but in ruins by 1699 (Brady 1863, vol. 1, 133-4). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Kilbritain Church was built in the 17th century, with records showing it was in repair in 1615 but in ruins by 1699; its style is typical of early post-Reformation Irish parish churches, and it is dedicated to Saint Brittain, reflecting the area's long-standing Christian tradition. The site is significant as a rare surviving example of a 17th-century church ruin in the region.
