Kilballyowen House, which stood in County Limerick until its demolition in the late 1960s, swallowed an older O'Grady castle whole. The Georgian facade hid four rooms salvaged from the vanished fortress, forcing new life to breathe through ancient walls. When the house finally fell, it took the last visible proof of that castle with it, leaving only a empty field and a warning about how quickly memory can be erased.

Described by O'Kelly (1944, 20) as following; 'No trace now visible. A modern Georgian house has been built on the site and it is said that parts of the castle were incorporated in this'. Kilballyowen House was demolished in the late 1960s. According to Lewis (1837) the O'Grady family built a very extensive castle at Kilballyowen which in 1837 wad described as having been 'incorporated with the modern dwelling-house, and contains four room in excellent order'.
