What is recorded here

The National Monuments Record of Wales records Kidwelly Castle, Kidwelly as Castle from the Medieval period. The saved point comes from the official national record. Inclusion does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
Built by the de Briouze family in the late 12th century, Kidwelly Castle was later held by the Crown following the Welsh Wars. It is important as a well-preserved example of a medieval Welsh border castle and for its historical association with the suppression of Llywelyn ap Gruffudd in 1287.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
