Wreckage of a German bomber plane from the Battle of the River Forth
A Junkers Ju-88 aircraft, part of the German Luftwaffe, crashed during the Battle of the River Forth in May 1940; the failure to secure the Forth bridges delayed the German advance into Scotland and contributed to the eventual failure of the invasion plan.
