Juliamount

Detached three-bay (two-bay deep) two-storey house, extant 1865, on a T-shaped plan with single-bay (single-bay deep) two-storey lean-to central return (west). Leased, 1940-72. Sold, 1972. Hipped slate roof on a T-shaped plan centred on lean-to slate roof (west) with clay ridge tiles, rendered chimney stacks having red brick stepped capping supporting terracotta pots, and cast-iron rainwater goods on rendered eaves retaining cast-iron downpipes. Part creeper- or ivy-covered rendered, ruled and lined walls. Central door opening into house. Square-headed window openings with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing six-over-six timber sash windows. Square-headed window openings to rear (west) elevation centred on square-headed window opening (half-landing) with cut-granite sills, and concealed dressings framing six-over-six timber sash windows centred on two-over-two timber sash window behind wrought iron bars. Set in landscaped grounds with rendered piers to perimeter having concrete capping supporting wrought iron double gates.

A house representing an integral component of the mid nineteenth-century domestic built heritage of Wexford with the architectural value of the composition suggested by such attributes as the compact plan form centred on a Classically-detailed doorcase showing a simple radial fanlight; and the diminishing in scale of the openings on each floor producing a graduated visual impression. Having been well maintained, the elementary form and massing survive intact together with substantial quantities of the original fabric, both to the exterior and to the interior, thus upholding the character or integrity of a house having historic connections with Henry William Wray (d. 1866), 'County Inspector of Constabulary late of Julia Mount [sic] Wexford County Wexford' (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1866, 357); John Maddock (d. 1878), 'Brickmaker late of Julia Mount [sic] Wexford' (Calendars of Wills and Administrations 1879, 422); Nicholas B.
